Sanford Area Founders Day Celebration
September 7 & 8, 2013
This Sanford wide celebration has been held for over 25 years… attendance and attractions have grown each year……this year’s Founders Day Celebration will be the best
The Founders Day Parade starts at 12:00 pm Saturday on Saginaw Road downtown Sanford and ends at the museum. Always popular, lots to see, and this year Ronald McDonald is scheduled for the event! Grab a lawn chair and join the excitement!
Sanford Centennial Museum & Grounds on Smith Street
Saturday begins at 7:30 am with a pancake and sausage breakfast, followed by a 9:00 am church bake sale. The Museum is opened at 9 am …see the historic train & depot, schoolhouse, church, general store, log cabin, town hall, antique farm equipment, logger bunkhouse, stump puller, veterans’ memorial, new gardens, covered bridge, and experience our most recent attraction the Big Wheel Log Hauler and our new Barn Pavilion Bldg. Also on the grounds are live demonstrations of Woodcarving, Spinning, Old tractors, Corn Milling, Steam engines, Wood Branding, Blacksmithing, and History Reenactors. 10:00 am – 11:30 am Clowns, Balloons, Magic show & Face painting. At 10:00 am- 5:00 pm Children’s Petting zoo and starting at 1 pm Barrel Train Rides. A major highlight of this year’s celebration is a full size carousel on museum grounds….all children ride free!!…Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 6 pm. Free rides are possible due to business and individual donors in the Sanford-Midland area. Free parking and Free admission to all events!! After the big parade the Historical Society plus Food vendors at the museum will serve a Children’s Hot Dog meal, locally famous Bean Soup, Roast Pork sandwiches, ice cream, & more. After lunch, “tap your toes to the Cloggers /Line Dancers and there is a 1:00 pm Pie Eating Contest, followed at about 1:30 pm by a Children’s Treasure Find, and then at 2:30-4:30 pm Jodie Sasse & South’rn Cross Country Music……bring your lawn chairs or sit at our picnic tables under the big tent and enjoy the great county music.
Sunday at the museum grounds open at 8:00 am with free coffee and doughnuts (as long as they last), 9:00 am Church service at Clare Bailey Chapel, 10:00 am Small animal Petting Zoo, Barrel Train Rides, Morning Folk music by Rendevous and at 12:00 pm lunch serving Sloppy Joes, Bean Soup, Children’s Hotdog Meals. And also at 1 pm more Live Country Music with Dale Hafer, and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Gospel Music in the Clare Bailey Chapel.
Sanford Village Park on Saturday there is a Craft Show, Fire Fighting Equipment demonstrations, and a Mid-Michigan Classic Chevy Club Car Show.
