ABOUT US
Sanford Lake is a man-made reservoir along the Tittabawassee River, located approximately 11 miles upstream of Midland, Michigan. Formed by the construction of the Sanford Dam in 1924 to produce hydroelectric power, it is known as a popular recreation spot for boaters, anglers, and swimmers alike.
On May 19, 2020, heavy rain caused a catastrophic failure of the Edenville Dam immediately upstream of Sanford Lake. The breach of the Edenville Dam resulted in historic water levels which quickly overran the Sanford Dam, eventually leading to its failure. Restoration efforts for the Sanford Dam and Sanford Lake have begun, with estimated repair costs totaling $250 million for all four lakes and dams. The engagement of our association is more important than ever as we work to build back our lake and community by 2025.
